Novel mixtures of Italian ryegrass and winter cereals: influence of ensiling on nutritional composition, fermentation characteristics, microbial counts and ruminal degradability

The study was conducted with the objective of evaluating nutrient content, fermentation characteristics, microbial counts, and ruminal degradability two mixtures Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) winter cereal silages. Two (mixture A: ryegrass, triticale, oats, wheat barley; mixture B: oats) were wilted ensiled in laboratory‐scale silos without additives. At end 90 d B silage had higher (p < .05) dry matter (DM), ether extract (EE), crude fibre (CF), neutral detergent (NDF) acid (ADF) contents than A silage. pH value Mixture lactate, acetate ethanol B.
